Ask Lisa: Plan for Success

Every week, mompreneurs-schweiz.ch will get some advice in english by mompreneur Lisa Chuma, founder of the Women's Expo Switzerland.
This week: Make plans!

We plan in every aspect of our lives. When we take a journey we plan the route and this should apply to your business too. Without a clear plan of the route you will take, and of where you want that route to take you, how will you know when you have got there? More importantly what will you do when things don’t go according to plan?

My experience of planning
There are many roles I play on a daily basis, mother, wife and business woman and honestly some times some things don't just go according to plan. The question is - what now? Do I try again the same plan tomorrow or do I immediately change a few things? The answer to this is it depends what it is and how urgent it is. However, in the world of business one of the things I have learnt is that my day and plans should never depend on things I have no control over. WISE right!

My advice for you
I have seen and met many women who are quickly demotivated by things not going exactly to plan at all times. My message for you today is to remember that we are all human and that there are things you cannot possibly control or plan for. Here are a few things I want to share with you on this topic:

Know what’s in your control: but more importantly what is not. The sooner you realise that you can’t plan for everything – the better you will be able to deal with the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Make a plan and give it (some) time: we live in such a fast paced world, which encourages us to react quickly, to try and change things without giving the proper time to analyse patterns and trends that can lead to costs, time and (most importantly) motivation being wasted.

Your action point: Take a closer look at how you are planning.
  • Write down one thing you are planning to do every day and why for the next four weeks to move your business forward.
  • Don’t forget to measure your success every week and be honest!
